The site is loading slow or stops while I'm browsing or trying to purchase an item. What's going on?
The load speed is determined by a few factors:
1) Internet connection speed (a modem is much slower than cable; cable is slower than DSL, DSL is slower than a T1, etc.). Note that a wireless connection tends to have very slow upload time. Try switching to a land connection to improve speed. Also, if you have a satellite internet connection, these have very fast view time but slower than dial up upload time (i.e. when you edit it's slow, when you view pages only it's fast).
2) Amount of traffic on your internet connection. Usually the internet pipe you are put on is shared by many people. If a larger than normal amount of people are online and are on your same internet connection, your access
speed slows down.
3) The number of hops it takes from your internet connection to our servers. Basically, when you go to any web address, your computer sends a message to go and retrieve the info. It goes from your internet connection to your
internet connection company and then you hop to the next internet hub and so on until you get to us. There's many major hubs which help speed this process up. Often telephone companies which provide internet service are
major hubs and they connect to other major hubs so you don't have to hop as many times.
4) The place you are connecting is unable to carry the load of traffic coming into it. Some companies have a bandwidth limit thereby making it slower for loading speed. We are less than half capacity most of the time.
5) You are running Internet Security software such as a ZoneAlarm or Windows Firewall on High security settings.
I hope this info is helpful. We tried to make it as fast as possible to get to our server locating it right on the major internet hub for our region to lessen the number of hops to us. Bandwidth wise, we are usually under half capacity. Our other hardware is also upgraded regularly.
In some instances, just deleting your cache which is also important to do occasionally for the general health of your computer, helps speed things up.
